I've got a new kayak still waiting to be taken out for it's first paddle - it's been so miserable and windy for the last couple of months, it wouldn't be much fun up the cut or on the lakes.

Sweet baby Jesus and the orphans, it's bloody windy, out there! One, partially filled, wheelie bin has just been retrieved from next doors drive, 15 yards away! God knows what it's like west of the Pennines, where the poor folk live in caves.

Windy and wet down here this morning, I hear it's dying down as it goes up north this morning it was pushing the rain around the frame of the sash windows and blowing it into the room, which was a novelty.

We've got a howling gale in the kitchen - it's blowing through the extractor fan, which isn't powerful enough to actually work as an extractor against this wind.

Speaking from my cave, its fine apart from the bats who have refused to go out in this weather, they are all flying around annoyingly

Phew, the wind's now only about 30mph, and, apart from the inside of the extractor fan ending up on the floor, we have only lost one fence panel.

They showed the gale that hit Blackpool on the Televsion, the winds really seemed to have died down quite considerably by the time they reached the North!

Well its a bit up and down at the moment, yesterday out on the road bike a nice 50 miles in just a single layer and no windproof. Sunday it was warmer in afternoon than San Remo after a cold sleety mornings ride. Back to miserable grey and wet today.

Rain, sleet, hail & snow here - all in the space of 20 minutes

Added to this morning's glorious sunshine that's just about 4 seasons in a day.

Oooh, 15 degrees today, shame about the wind though. The south east wind that seemed to be a headwind for all but around 4 miles of our 30 mile circular-ish ride. How does that work?

Because for the vast majority of your ride you will not have been in a headwind at all but a cross wind which feels equally as sapping as a headwind.

I read somewhere a while ago that scientists reckon that the 4-season year doesn't exist anymore, at least in Europe. More like 7-8 distinct micro-seasons, instead. I think they did that just to piss off Neil Finn though...
