    mechanical advice required (again) please!!!
having failed to straighten my bent chain ring properly it still catches the chain ever so slightly when on middle ring so i'm resigned to having to replace it...but am struggling to find a replacement that matches...i have a 3x10 setup with a 44T big ring...
can i fit a 9 speed 44T chain ring?? will it work OK??
can i fit a 10 speed 42T chain ring??? will it work OK???

or would you just live with it as is...i cycled to work this morning and it works fine on middle and big rings...i was just concerned it may damage other stuff if left???

    Anyone had a
Specialised Hardrock Pro 2011 21 inch frame stolen recently? or Trek 6500? or Specialized Enduro?

Was looking on ebay for a bike for a mate and found this:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Specialise...#ht_500wt_1282

His feedback shows a lot bikes passing through his hands.....
    http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayIS...edbackAsSeller

Might all be innocent of course.

Anyone into retro stuff? Have Red Flite Ti saddle circa 1996 and a Suntour XC Pro front wheel circa 1992 going.

    Steve,

Probably a daft question, but have you tried taking the chainring off and hammering it on a hard flat surface? You could also take any sharp edges off with a file.

I haven't got 10 speed but I think the chain is slightly narrower than 9 speed. So 42T 10 speed would probably be best. Should work fine, provided its for triple cranks. Don't think you'll notice 2 teeth less on the big ring.

I tried clamping it and bending it in a vice at work but couldn't get it quite right...might try the hammer as a last resort!!!

Concern over chain fitting was my main issue so the 42T option was what i was thinking...

    Anything planned for tomorrow?

I could lead from the woodside (different route to last time)

BUT I thought an away day ride might be an idea, given we don't have to be up for work on Friday......

    Any thoughts?

    Smile Skills with Trailmotions

Andy, Brett, Russ (not known in this part of interweb, friend of Scottish Dave) and I just had a top day's private skills coaching out at Gisburn with Ant of http://www.trailmotions.co.uk.

Ant was given a brief which basically amounted to "teach us to ride more like teenagers" and we were all very happy with the results. We finished on the Hope line with some amount of air under our wheels and without any disasters. We'd also done a good bit of roller and cornering flow, and were able to feel mildly smug as other riders bounced passed us.

Compared to the competition Ant was very reasonably priced and gets a hearty recommendation.
