Why is the American government so broke its about to stop?
Not sure how that comes to pass, that a government can be "broke" an cease to function?
What would happen to the U.S.?

They ain't broke, but their political system is showing some strain.

Playground politics - the Constitution has some bollocks about Gov't spending only being able to continue once the annual budget is agreed & signed off by Congress. This was, according to a chap on the radio, designed to ensure that the budget was always agreed on time however, the Republicans have refused to play ball as a direct objection the proposed healthcare changes.

It's a good way of saving money mind, there's a shit-load of public sector workers currently on enforced, unpaid leave.
