    The squeezed middle

FFS - the cost of staying alive is outrageous these days. The Mrs has just come back with a 140 food shopping bill. So ok, I could knock of maybe 15 worth of uneccessary stuff, and perhaps revert to lower quality produce, but still.....

Oh, and the price of all fuels is on the increase....again!

Tis a worry, even for the established middleclass such as myself LOL!

We used to use Sainsbury's, but like you say it was averaging 120-30 per week (for two peeps). We now use Aldi for fruit and veg, which is easily as good if not fresher than the Sainsbury's stuff, wouldn't touch Aldi meat/chicken though, it's crap, all our meat is from local butchers. Any 'special' items (Aldi don't do grapefruit!), we nip across the road from Aldi to Waitrose.

Once you get over the shock of being in Aldi with the plebs and look at your reciept, I feel it is worthwhile, and I am a snob of the highest order.

edit: I should mention that this faffing probably reduces the weekly shop by about 30-40.

Crikey for 2? Mines for 4, although admittedly one only eats mush at the moment.

Our Tesco's is full of job seekers and ne'er do wells and the floor always appears dirty, not sure I could face it...

I'm saving up for a 29er, spending money for the Barbados holiday, and a new Gore phantom.

    Life sure is tough.

Actually TBH lets remove the humor I'm not, I'm trying to build a cushion to a) support me for a bit if I'm sacked as my new job is by now means a long term certainy, b) pay off some mortgage and therefore am living of a "lower wage" and trying to stuff away the rest. Plus the Mrs is on maternity, and childcare is basically equivalent to another mortgage.

Unfortunately her hobby is dealing in antiques and collectibles so she actually makes a profit...she will always own the moral high ground when outlay on hobbies come to the table!

Approximately 230 a month in supermarkets for two people. A bit more on top for my steak and chicken from the old butchers, obviously.
