Fair point.

I picked up a Graham Weigh frame for £79 and built it up from 8speed 105...it's a clunker for sure :-)

As has been said, I've only 1 road bike, and I'm buggered if I'm going anywhere near the frame with a drill.

Besides, the creaking is a useful measure of cadence...

Struggling to understand this, as there is a tube [metal] in a press fit BB that the BB bearings press into. If, and its a big if, I bought a bike with a BB30 I'd use Loctite 641 to assemble it just the same as I do with my Full susser bearings. This prevents any progression, which I guess is the cause of creaking.

Yep one of the mentioned fixes was to coat it in loctite as you mention, which is most likely what'll happen as I dont have any movement in the cranks so BB's probably still good TBH.

You don't know the meaning of creaking unless you raced 20+ years ago with Cinelli bars and quill stem. Needed earplugs in the bunch!

Back from the LBS. BB was a mess (can feel its rough with fingers) and now replaced. Rear hub bearings on advisory too.

I though road riding was supposed to be cheaper than MTB's maintenance wise.

God I hate it when my bike creaks....I had a similar creak recently and its so difficult trying to work out where its coming from. Anyway, after an hour of this relentless very loud creaking.....it stopped! Just like that. So odd!
