Well you wouldn't want to get mud all over the tyres would you?
There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate tyres

There are actually three speeds on a single speed - slow, stopped and walking

Well it's here & built, mostly.
So, SS & chains - what's the deal? If not a normal 9spd, then what's best?Carpe Cerevisi !

Pork wah?
read a few articles that say 3/32 chains are as strong as 1/8. The slight issue I have is that there's not quite enough adjustment on t'chain tugs so would a half link (single or full chain) help?Carpe Cerevisi !

I've always used standard lengths of old chain...of which I have many :-)
I love the looks of Half links and used them for years on BMX but couldn't find a half link chain that didn't seem baggy on the old 9sp running gear... can't see how you've not got enough adjustment on a sliding dropout frame though?
Wheel tugs use two.
I must have a photo/video of a single speed did the soggy bottoms series on it...I know I did the clif climb once without pushing and pre-baby I've done the Cwm Carna and Whytes climbs...in fact I might try and find a cheap clown frame to build one with the OEM wheels that came with my new bike :-)Last edited by BHB 10.6.6; 05-03-13 at 08:33.

The lack of adjustment isn't on the frame - it's the tugs themselves:

Currently, with the adjustment screws all the way in they just touch the rear of the dropouts. I guess using them without the lock nuts would do.
Have found a single half-link for a 3/32 chain so will get that & see whether it fixes the issue.Carpe Cerevisi !

Hmm can only find one image of my on-one in SS format.
Note bodged, exage tensioner and improvised top tube hose shortening method.
and here's the front end (#68) riding up the Clif climb :-@

Looks good Nobby. Judging by the amount of seatpost you've let someone else test it.
Ridden it their? How'd you get on?aka Sean / Sandeep / Sylvian / Seamus....

It's only a 16" frame you cheeky fekker.
Went for a quick 10k local loop with one longish climb & a few short, sharp ones - all okay really. Made a few adjustments here & there & confirmed my 2 main worries- the forks are a tad iffy & the tyres have to go. How we ever rode on fire XC pros is beyond me :-/
must have done something right though, got a KOM!Carpe Cerevisi !

Presumably uphill? I find its faster cause you're forced into a gear you normally change down from.

Nah, a twisty root fest along the river - can't remember the last time I rode that way on anything other than the FS.

Maybe conscious of the lack of gears you carried more speed.....?

Probably. That and the lack of rear suss made me look to get over/through the rootiest bits quicker.

You're probably right....apart from the footage, which has nothing to do with sky, I'm not enjoying the commentary much at all. Compared with the Guys on ITV4 (TDF)who seem to get every aspect spot...
