    The size of chain wheel at the front governs the leverage on the cranks, bit like car con rods look it up.

    Running a ROTOR Agilis 2x9 on the plastic hardtail...

    I've no fucking idea what the ratios are but I do lose out on the top you just have to hit things a bit faster and learn to carry more speed through corners rather than accelerating out with 44t

    Okay, don't all rush at once to help ol' Uncle Hans but I need a little pointing in the right direction for a mate wanting to upgrade to gears from SS.

    2 x 10 for the flatlands of the Chilterns - what front and rear gear combo would you suggest ?

    38/26 with 11-36 cassette for me - was perfect around there yesterday. I guess it depends on riding style/cadence etc.

    Not sure, I run 9 speed which gives the same low gear as Stans. If I was younger an lighter and fitter I would manage about a 26 inch low gear so looking at 30 - 11 and closer ratios. Some big jumps in the 36 - 11
