Seems quite common now tbh, not just tyres, everything.
    Which tyre?

    Cheap compared to car tyres.

Most brands offer a cheaper version, with a wire bead (but the same tread pattern) for less than 30. You don't have to buy the top of the range version of the tyre

    Depends what car!
I used to pay 45 for tyres for my Focus, can't get a decent tyre for current car for less than 90, sadly.

I think 45 for a bike tyre is overpriced.

You can get that tyre for 25 Dalesman, seems like a good price to me. You don't have to buy the expensive version

It's think it's pretty clear that the cost of most consumables have risen in the last few years

I'm not sure that David has the same attitude to prices as me and thee Kev, drop a line to the supplier and a pair would arrive for 'testing', without the pain of paying.

I remember reading years ago that manufacturers like two sectors in a recession, namely military and leisure goods, as customers in those sectors will pay through the nose regardless.

Mind you I also remember when all these fields were full of working factories...
There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate tyres

Do you really need or want the latest treads? For a while I used to buy "older" stock from the internet or Cycle Promotions one day jobbies. Normally paid 20 a pair.

    Built up quite a collection.

Rising oil prices = rising tyre prices. In fact rising oil prices seems to = expensive everything.

Specialized Captains are 30 in 26" or 29" versions which is not bad by todays standards . The wire bead version is 20 for anybody that doesn't want to pay 30 .

I understand DK has a shed full of tyres he tried and didn't like, he might be able to sell some cheap to you...

I've been steadily giving them away to freinds and colleagues, after testing every tyre ever made. Must have about 20 still left to shift.

I know how DK feels, at one stage I had over 40 tyres. Over the last few years I've got rid of a few as they had perished. I just went nuts for a while, riding a tyre and then another one would drag me in with the scent of fresh rubber......
Semi slick, gravel tyre, Hardpack tyre, grass tyre, mud tyre. Front only, rear only, uni-directional, bi-directional. Worn/part worn/not worn enough to throw away and may use one day. 1.5,1.8,1.90, 1.95,2, 2.1, 2.15, 2.3. Any I've missed?

I really did waste my earlier years didn't I.
