    Sunny foreign places to holiday...

....looking to take Her Ladyship away for a week in May as a bit of a break. We don't often go abroad so are quite out of touch with what's "nice" and what's unspeakably noisy and full of drunk, vulgar, embarrassing English chav's. Suggest somewhere "nice" and quiet, please.

Sadly there will always be a beer swilling Brit where ever you go. But Cape Verde is nice in May if you want a beach hol, Sicily if you want nice food.

Me and Herself were doing the Ibiza "thing" pre kids. We know the place inside-out.
It's seriously gone down the tubes - last went 5yrs ago. Used to love it in the mid-80's.

LG, I believe Cala D'Or, Majorca is still quite relaxed and there's always Cuidadela, Menorca if you're not too fussed about being right on a beach - that;s if the islands take your fancy.

At your age, maybe Madeira, Malta or Gozo?

    TRY HERE

Actually, I'm seriously thinking about Malta/ Madeira. As for the TRY HERE - 3 words, last two being " right off".

TBH if you don't want the beer swilling asses then France and Italy are a good bet. Though southern spain in Spring can be very nice. Spent a longish weekend/week in and around Seville a couple of years ago and that was nice, last year went around the Loire Valley, nice towns, big castles, great food and wine everywhere but weather in spring could be iffy. Corsica and Sardinia and nice too as is Sicily. Had pleasant surprise a couple of years ago in Majorca, apparently the beer swilling chavs are kept in Shagaloof which is a fenced off no go area...

Too many places to mention, but if it was me LG, with no kids attached I'd be considering somewhere off the beaten track, that I'd not normally consider. It also depends on how hot you want it, but perhaps one of the following:

    Morocco
    Croatia
as mentioned above, Sicily, Sardinia, Corsica
Or even Austria.....nice easy cycling around the lakes of Saltzburg.

Thassos - nice quiet greek island, have been a few times and it's mellow, definitely not an all day english breakfast destination - very relaxing, recommend it!
