Hi

Me and my friends are looking to ramp up our MTB adventures this summer with a trip to the Alps. Our preference for accomodation is camping.

We're either heading for Chatel or Sameons. Has anyone been before, gone camping and know of campsites you can just rock up at, or need to book a pitch.

We have tried emailing the Les Gets campsite, got a response of 'sorry no more booking'. Not sure if he's full up, or just turn up on the day and you can have that patch of grass.

Any experiences good or bad much appreciated. Thanks

rabbits
a badger
Pheasants
4 deer
some long thin thing that moved so fast I couldn't identify it!
and not sure they could be considered wild....around 20 Llamas!!

what did you see?

Interesting interview with Wiggo in today's Telegraph has whetted my appetite to watch it for the first time. I might not be a roadie and almost certainly never will be, but adore Le TDF so think this night be a good warm up for this years TDF.

Wiggo reckons this is a far more extreme race with 3 weeks of carnage ahead! He reckons hes in top shape and He's even shaved off his sidies for additional speed.

1.5 hours a night on sky sports..... Have recorded the series so I can tune in late and whizz thru the adverts.

OK so have had a small windfall in cash, Now we do have a large list of things that need to be done on our house, plus 2 small children, so i should place this money in the bank and use it to continue the house project, But thats dull!! yes i may get a new Double Glazed back door and a plate rack, but its not a bike.
My wife does not want me to get a bike on 0%, and is willing to let me spend all the money, as long as i "shut up about it!"
But what to do,
Should i,
1) buy a road / CX bike, i do not have one and have been thinking about one. plus could do the odd commute (could do this and spend only about 3/4s of the money)

2) Buy a new full sus, Their is one i have spoted, full bike but do not like the build, (I am a Shimano Fan) but the bike is a 100mm travel carbon jobby and i am sure i would enjoy it.

3) buy a complete new hardtail, mine is getting a bit long in the tooth, same thing applys with shaimano though.

OR
4) indulge my obsession with a certain brand of bike and buy a 120mm travel FS frame and build it up, i can get the frame, and use parts from my HT, plus some new forks to have an amazing Aluminium XC bike. Who knows may like it so much i could sell my 150mm travel full sus by the same make,

5) indulge my obsession with a certain brand of bike and buy a hard tail frame, build it up etc etc. and have a nice light aluminium XC / trail bike.

i am rubbish at this sort of thing,

So with the article of electronic suspension, how much do you use the settings on your forks and shocks,
I am a fan of my lock out on both my bikes, my big bike i will always be using the travel adgust, between 150, 130 and 110. but my hardtail i tend not to adjust the travel and leave it at 120.
my rear shock i never touch, mainly because the lock out was broken from day one and i have never had the money to get it repaired.

Took an old Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub apart today.

It wouldn't select first gear, so I stripped cleaned and rebuilt it with Sheldon's help, and despite the enormous amount of rusty shoite that came out everything cleaned up alright (except a pawl spring - now on order) and the thing works again :)

How good is that? Built in May 1984, years of neglect and abuse, and it can still be repaired, and spares are still available - love it :)
