View Full Version : RANT!
Why is it some people judge a bike by it's name?!!Dope Sik" reckons Kona is better than GIANT, well, he's never owned a GIANT before in his life and has never ridden one hard so how the **** does he know if Kona is going to be better than GIANT?!!Anyone else know of any other tosspots that judge a bike by it's name?"
Going purely by name... I'd prefer a Handjob to a Prince Albert.
I think it's judging by reputation really. I prefer Marins to Kona's, I haven't ridden all the current models by any means but I would buy a Marin based on past experience.

My GIANT is ace :fact:
I agree with Mike, it's all about reputations. I've never owned a Scott or a Trek and wouldn't even consider buying them either
I prefer Marins to Kona's, I haven't ridden all the current models by any means but I would buy a Marin based on past experience."Exactly, if it handles great then buy it, I don't care if it's called a GIANT Piece of Piss or a Iron Horse Schlong I would buy it for how it handles."
i rode a gaint recently and found it a wicked ride!! but i dunno why your getting so worked up about other peoples opinions?
i rode a gaint recently and found it a wicked ride!! but i dunno why your getting so worked up about other peoples opinions?"People's opinion's can change things."
Exactly, if it handles great then buy it, " But I don't 'KNOW' how it handles, I'm making a decision based on past experience. You haven't said why Dope Sik reckons Kona is better than Giant."
I think you need to take a deep breath TicklerSounds like you're an annoyed GIANT owner
Giant, Kona, all the same low end bikes.
I think you need to take a deep breath TicklerSounds like you're an annoyed GIANT owner"(dips head in water for 10 seconds)"You haven't said why Dope Sik reckons Kona is better than Giant."He judged them on looks, reckons the Kona all mountain bikes look better than GIANT's range."
Giant, Kona, all the same low end bikes"meeeee-ooow"
He judged them on looks, reckons the Kona all mountain bikes look better than GIANT's range."THey do"
He judged them on looks, reckons the Kona all mountain bikes look better than GIANT's range." Isn't that the way we judge most things first off? You wouldn't ride an ugly woman just because someone said she was a good ride would you? No, you take a chance on the fit looking bird."
THey do"Doesn't mean Kona is better than GIANT."
Equally it doesn't mean Giant is better than Kona.
Doesn't mean Kona is better than GIANT"You said he said they LOOKED better"
Do you ride a Giant then Tickler?
You said he said they LOOKED better"Yes, he said they looked better then also said they ARE better!"Do you ride a Giant then Tickler?"Yes."
Do you ride a Giant then Tickler?" Nah, I reckon he rides an ugly bird."
Okay, so how many Kona's have you ridden?
Okay, so how many Kona's have you ridden?"One. His Fire Mountain, didn't like the high riser handle bars, didn't like the forks and didn't like the seat. I don't say Kona's crap."
Well, my Kula rides nicer than my mates XTCTherefore IMO the Kona is better, he'd say different and so would someone elseIt's called an opinion. I think you just don't like his because he's effectively slagging your bike off.My advice is to grow up, differing opinions are part of life's rich tapestry.
Actually I can't say that and mean it
Same here, but it sort of makes your point though.
Indeed it does. Case closed.NEXT!!!!!!!!!!
Zillion, is it a real word? :)
Who really gives a fuck.its all subjective.i like some konas and dislike others, the same with giants, trek, scott etc etc, but thats my perogative.
Yeah, we did that Luke :)
Just ride the damn bike.FWIW, I hate Cannondales (stupid forks ;-)), Scotts (always seem to attract towpath fashoinistas), Konas (look too heavy) etc.I've never ridden any of these bikes just a nice blinkered perception as I'm sure that in reality they're actualy not that bad...I hate Treks though because I've had a bad Trek experience.
Dr Dolittle the pedalling chinchilla
Mostly I wouldn't give a damn except.....I reckon that the STW based Marin bashing must have done some damage to the sales of what are after all a very good series of bikes. OK not a huge dent but significant enough I'm sure. And I really can't stand microbrand snobbery either. Most of these microbrands have their frames welded in the exact same factory in Taiwan as the larger brands - they don't have any more or less 'soul' put into them just because the rest of the company is run from a shed somewhere......
i couldn't bring myself to get a scott... however, ransom ltd... i rode my hardrock today, and then rode a friends '07 hardrock pro....i was amazed how differently they rode, he was too, so just hang different bits off it if you don't like it
Luke's got a point. I take a totally unreasonable dislike to some bikes but it's generally the model rather than the brand. I think the Scott Genius is pants (having ridden three different models) but liked the Ransom and love the carbon roadies. I like most of the Giant and Kona ranges (love the coiler as a toy) but there's at least one bike from each I'm not keen on. I can't think of a Spesh I'd refuse to ride and there aren't many Treks I'd willingly do more than a mile on.
I don't generally tend to think about the brand or whether it's an XT or an XTR rear mech when I'm hanging on for dear life at break-neck speeds. However, some brands will keep you intact where others fail just as more expensive parts may shift that little bit better if you're really paying attention. The only thing that I really tend to be a bit anal about is tyres - choose the wrong tread pattern or compound and it can turn any bike into a right git to handle.Having said that, when I'm sat down at the trail-side having a smoke, I'm kinda happy to have the Marin logo beaming out for all to see rather than a Carrera...
Unless that Carrera is prefixed by the word 'Porsche' :)
Of course! Not that I'd be going agricultural with a Porsche you understand...
Unless you'd had a smoke ;)
I'd walk up the road rather than be seen sitting next to a Porsche.
my saracen is better then kona and giant! end off!
I'd walk up the road rather than be seen sitting next to a Porsche"Why? Is it the car or the company itself?"
Wondered if someone would pick me up on that Kato. :)I'd happily wear Porsche sunglasses.
Wondered if someone would pick me up on that Kato." I ignore your anti car ramblings John :)"
I was just wondering what with Porsche being the major shareholder in VW now, it's a lot of Porsche family cars to be avoiding ;-)What have we got? Porsche, Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, Bentley, Bugatti, MAN trucks and Scania trucks. Better avoid the roads completely! ;-)
Aw, spoilsport. It's 'anti-car ramblings' BTW. :ç)
Sadbloke, missing for a while
giant appear to produce bikes down to a price, kona over engineer their bikes so theyre heavy, trek appear to use the cheapest bits out, that fail ,when you look for a girlfreind , you look for personality, sex appeal, a good ride and suspension, cheap to own , but good quality bits.same as a bike really.which one gives the most enjoyment is your choice.
