Hello student slacker.: )How's the teaching?

Oxygen Thief
11-10-02, 14:48
ahh look the lesser motivated student....alright Doc?, how's it going?...

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 14:48
Not bad. Not done any actual secondary teaching yet, just obs. Same again next week, then I take over the week after, ie just before Dave's party. But I've met my three classes (only do 8 hours of lessons per week on the first practice) and they are great. I've got year 7 set 2, year 8 set 1 and year nine set 2, and I'm teaching them Changing State, Group 1 Metals and Chemical Reactions respectively. My friend Darren is in the same school, he's a biologist - but they have given him three bottom sets and chemistry, physics and geology to teach. I'm happy. He's not.....

Romeo Framboli
11-10-02, 14:50
is it ok to mention to the headteacher that you dont want to be lumbered with any divs?

Diane *GG*
11-10-02, 14:51
Sounds like Dave's party is just at the right time then. You'll need a little r&r after a week of that! : )

Anne Brown
11-10-02, 14:55
wait til they start phoning you with death threats.Aren't kids great these days.

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 14:56
Headteacher? He doesn't lower himself to talking to student scum like us. Actually rumor has it he never leaves his office except for assembly.....Half my pupils are on the Gifted and Talented register. Which would be fine, but despite having loads of training on handling pupils with learning difficulties before this placement we don't get taught how to handle G&T pupils until January. I'll have to make it up as I go.

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 14:59
My lesson plans for the first week:Year 7Changing states - computer simulation of particle behaviour in solids, liquids and gases.Year 8Reactivity series of metals - series of experiments on CD-ROMYear 9 Women in Chemistry - web search on famous women chemists.I see a pattern emerging.......

Diane *GG*
11-10-02, 15:08
Good job you're not computer shy then.: )

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 15:11
I'm loving this. All the fun practicals at school you never got to do, the teacher always did them. Now I get to do them. I'm not sure the pupils will actually learn much but they are going to have fun.....

Anne Brown
11-10-02, 15:14
Women in Chemistry - so you really are teaching" something you know nothing about."

Milo Bloom
11-10-02, 15:14
web search on famous women chemists"pretty much just takes you here, which is possibly the most boring site I've ever visited.I notice it has a forum though ;-)"

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 15:16
Well I was planning on suggesting to the class that the reason the only female chemist anyone has heard of is Marie Curie is that, on the whole women are rubbish at science. But its seems I'm not allowed to. So they'll just have to find some examples of other women scientists that over came their genetic predisposition to being useless......

Diane *GG*
11-10-02, 15:17
Trollable? Does anyone else use it?: )

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 15:18
NOOOOOOO! Don't troll there. I might have to send my year 9's to that site!

Anne Brown
11-10-02, 15:20
When will you be doing this online teaching doc?Just so we avoid it you understand.;-)

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 15:21
You'll know. Do you really reckon then having got the class in the ICT room I'm going to stay on task myself? I'll be on Bike Magic of course!

Diane *GG*
11-10-02, 15:22
Shame we'll all be on the other site then...; p

Anne Brown
11-10-02, 15:25

Milo Bloom
11-10-02, 15:26
Too intellectual to be

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 15:26
Speaking of Bike Magic:All the pupils have journals. Pupils that behave well in your lesson get their journals signed, and there are rewards for getting loads of signatures. Actually most teachers use stamps as its quicker - my mentor for example has a mouse on his. I searched for ages round stationary shops to find such as stamp, but couldn't. Then I hit on an idea - I'll give them stickers. I'll print up custom stickers for them. But then I had to choose what to put on the sticker. Can you guess whats coming? Yes, pupils that behave in my class will be getting Chinchilla on a Bike stickers in their journals.......

Diane *GG*
11-10-02, 15:30
Karen got those. There's a special website for teacher ones. Lots of Well Done's, gold stars and so on.Didn't see any chinchilla ones though...

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 15:30
Anne - thats OK, I'll be using Dr Dolittle as a log on ID anyway. Milo - I understand what they are on about but I still think its pants......

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 15:31
Di - I prefer the stickers anyway. More style and I can alter them over time, or for different years etc.

Diane *GG*
11-10-02, 15:32
I think you may be right Milo. I don't understand a word of that! They'd destroy us with their long rows of syllables and cunning use of technical jargon.*sigh*

Anne Brown
11-10-02, 15:33
You're already posting over there.

Diane *GG*
11-10-02, 15:34

Milo Bloom
11-10-02, 21:20
...except that they've left Synjin Smythes post on the atomic orbitals thread, so it now looks like Synjin is berating Douglass Taber for posting mis information. Which is quite funny in a way.Who was Synjin, anyway?

Milo Bloom
11-10-02, 21:21
Over on the girly swats chemistry forum, James.

Ryan Gallagher
11-10-02, 21:26

Malcolm Chuzzlewit
11-10-02, 21:42

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 21:56
Anne - at least its explains why I have a 175 mm crank on the drive side, but only 165mm on the non drive side......

It is true its rather difficult to tell a male chinchilla from a female. Not so much becuase the males are under-equipped, as that the females seem to be a little over-equipped.....

Ryan Gallagher
11-10-02, 22:20

Ancient Mariner
11-10-02, 22:20
And you have to wade through all that fur too. Although wading through fur can be fun ;-)

Ancient Mariner
11-10-02, 22:20
........but not on a chinchilla!

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 22:21
I should think not. That fine fur would really get stuck in your teeth....

Anne Brown
11-10-02, 22:22
I think it would get stuck up my nose and make me sneeze.

Ancient Mariner
11-10-02, 22:23
You could alway try using fingers instead, Anne.

Ancient Mariner
11-10-02, 22:25
Out of interest Anne, are you going to get the new bike muddy this tomorrow in the chilterns?

Anne Brown
11-10-02, 22:27

Ancient Mariner

Dr Dolittle - in trouble again it seems.....
11-10-02, 22:30

karen B + Bec D
11-10-02, 22:31

Ancient Mariner
11-10-02, 22:34
